Work Opportunity Tax Credit

The Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) is a Federal tax credit available to employers who hire and retain individuals with barriers to employment. This gives the employer the opportunity to expand the diversity in the workforce and the number of new candidates to consider for employment. Businesses can get tax breaks for hiring from these target groups:

  • Veterans
  • Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Recipients
  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
  • Food Stamp Recipients
  • Designated Community Residents (living in Empowerment Zones or Rural Renewal Counties)
  • Vocational Rehabilitation Referral
  • Ex-felons
  • Supplemental Security Income Recipients
  • Summer Youth Employee (living in Empowerment Zones)
  • Long Term Unemployed (LTUR)
